The Countdown

Travel.
I crave it; the culture, the adventure, the unknown, the people, and especially the food. This will be my first trip to Asia, and my excitement is at an all time high. 13 total days until take off. 8 days of class. 1 day of clinical. 3 finals. The countdown is on.

This trip has been a dream for me for 3 years, and I can hardly believe it's finally becoming a reality. I began mentoring at a refugee center in South Salt Lake 3 years ago. Most of the kids there came from Southeast Asia and the center helps them transition into life in America. The specific girl I have mentored since fall of 2012 has taught me so much about life, patience, and persistence as I have witnessed her struggles, endeavors, accomplishments, and growth.

"Randi Thank you for help my homework and be nice to me I'm sorry that I be mean last year but this year do not worry I will try to do hard work and help nice"

If anybody had asked me 3 years ago if I wanted to go to Thailand, I likely would have said yes, but with entirely different intentions than I hold today. I would have wanted to go selfishly, to travel aimlessly on my own terms, with no real purpose other than for the experience.  In 13 days, I'll be traveling to Thailand with slightly less selfish intentions. I'll be traveling to Thailand to use my nursing skills to perform assessments on people in need. I'll be traveling to Thailand to volunteer at an HIV/AIDS hospice. I'll be traveling to Thailand to aid in construction of schools in rural villages. I'll be traveling to Thailand to see where the children at the refugee center came from, hopefully helping me to better understand who they are.

13 days until take off. 8 days of class. 1 day of clinical. 3 finals.
But who is counting?
